The darkest thing I've ever watched is an old 70s children's anime movie called Ringing Bell. It's also about revenge, how pointless it is, and featuring the main character losing both himself and everything in his quest to kill the wolf that killed his mother. I highly recommend you give it a review, as I'd love to see your two cents on it. Plus the movie's only 45 minutes long.
