Season 9, Episode 348.
It's time for the Cartoon Hero series to come full circle, and correct one final mistake...
I don't know what post limits are here so I'll make a different post for each video. Of course I'm going to comment on superhero shows. I grew up with them, either first-run or in syndicated reruns. It's why I'm a huge superhero fan.
ReplyDelete1. I dropped off of season two when it looked like they were trying to do Civil War and Secret Invasion all in one shot. I didn't care for those stories in the comics and I wasn't about to go with them on the cartoon.
2.I agree with you of course but I don't have a problem with the "goofier" episodes. They were fun and Batman doesn't have to be serious all the time. The show even let him smile from time to time, just not a very large smile. Sometimes Batman was allowed to be Bruce Wayne or at least not forget the "man" part of his name. Too many writers want to make him angry and brooding and that's just not what Batman is.
3. So glad to hear they're working on getting that version Cyborg 009 finally out on home video.
4.I don't fault Hartman for having a preferred type of content, but the show was already really good. There had to be a balance to keep it from getting too dark while still keeping it the light but serious show it was.
5.Darkwing was a great hero parody, a parody that didn't forget to make the main character a hero. I think that's why I lost interest in shows like Inspector Gadget. Penny was the real hero of the show. Darkwing is a good model for superhero parodies.
6.The reboot Faust is working on just isn't the same as the regular Super Hero Girls. It's a bit too frantic and she really doesn't understand the DC heroes, especially Supergirl. The web show and DTV movies do a much better job and I wish that was going to be the full series...but that's not what Cartoon Network produces anymore.
7. I never got into Earthworm Jim, but I loved Project Geeker. It's too bad that show didn't get another season.
8.I've seen a few episodes of El Tigre and it was really good. It's like a superhero version of Mucha Lucha.
9.Nice to see someone else say good things about Hanna-Barbera. The Impossibles were a fun superhero team. It aired with Frankenstein Jr, which is a superhero show too.
10.I was not a fan of the Batman Beyond epilogue, but Justice League and Unlimited were really good. If I were to lodge a complaint is that it was a bit too good. There's no point going to the comics to see more of these characters when they do so well on this show. It would feel strange seeing them in individual adventures when they worked so closely as a team here. Say what you will about Superfriends (and I'm probably it's only defender in this community--granted season one wasn't very good) or Justice League Action but at least you can imagine them apart and having their own adventures.
11. I haven't seen My Hero Academia, but hating something because it's popular is just stupid. You really can't like someone because someone else also likes it? You're not being a rebel or kewl, you're being a dumbass.
ReplyDelete12. OK KO isn't bad but I couldn't get into it. Although now I want to see these crossovers. It has a good intro.
13. I haven't seen this one either. I think the only superhero anime I've really followed were shows like Battle Of The Planets/Gatchaman and Tekkaman/Teknoman. I even have the original dubs of the first Tekkaman The Space Night.
14.The original Powerfuff Girls is great. We'll forget the reboot but I kind of want to see PPG Z.
15. I had a few lore issues with Spectacular Spider-Man (Eddie's origins, Gewn being remade into a science geek to make her more "believable" as Peter's love interest) but I will never call it bad. Plus it came out during the beginning of my medical issues so I have a harder time connecting to it.
16. SWAT Cats is awesome. How is this not a superhero show? I don't think it's dumb. It's just a more fun world, but it had some seriously dark moments. I hope the creators succeed in bringing it back.
17. I would talk about this version of Teen Titans, but I also liked the Filmation version. Of course I grew up with the Filmation version in reruns.
18. I don't have access to Amazon Prime but none of the live-action versions can't hold a candle to the animated Tick. Like Darkwing it's a great love letter and parody of superheroes. And you had to jump on the Aquaman-bashing train? Really?
19. I can't understand why I haven't watched more anime with American-style superheroes. I have seen a couple of episodes of this show and I need to find time to see more. It looks really good.
20. I did see this one on Kids WB and it was okay. I didn't get into it as much as you did but I never played the game.
Not a bad list but I'm sure I could list a ton more for my choices. Like I said, I grew up with a lot of superhero shows. And I'm betting many of mine would be more controversial than yours. :)
He's not jumping on the train. He was pointing out the bad depiction of Aquaman in Super Friends. If you watch his Top 10 List for Batman: The Brave and The Bold, you'll see him give Aquaman tons of praise.
DeleteWhat he said. I like Aquaman, but when he's done RIGHT.
DeleteI disagree with pretty much everyone assessment of Superfriends Aquaman...and Superfriends in general. It's what led me to being a DC comics fan when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteCalled it. This was a great finale, that was vastly better than Super Mega Force's ending, and made more sense than Super Dino Charge's. And you'd make a better Red Senshi than some of Sentai's most recent asinine additions. Can't wait to see where you go from here.
