Well, it's not the greatest adaptation I've ever seen, but I've certainly seen worse.

  1. To be fair to Goro, his father is incredibly hardcore old school and despises the modern world as well as general pop culture. He hates Ultraman, which proved a sticking point in his relationship with one of his most famous pupils: Hideaki Anno. Anno loves pop culture, but because of his respect for Hayao Miyazaki, he tried to follow his example, which his resulted in bad results, like the grey tone used in Gunbuster's finale almost bankrupting Gainax, and when the crud hit the fan for Anno's works, Hayao would often be there to tell it's the fault of those watching. He has a right to have a high opinion of himself, but he is not a pleasant man to say the least. And that's just scratching the surface. Des Shinta has begun reviewing a Super Robot Wars game and has divulged a lot of interesting info about Japanese Franchises and those behind them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAtd0NvH5LLEN6s6i4fCa9D_p2mkf6j8-

I'm inclined to believed Goro's comments about the younger generation rising up. Even if it is just about his relationship with his father, it's symptomatic of the clash of the older and younger generations in Japan.
