I remember the Robotic Stooges show when it was first run. My dad got me into the Stooges and while not my favorite comedy team, I do appreciate the humor. It's true that they were live action cartoons and essentially an animated show about them was a bit redundant, but this show seemed to work just well enough for what it was. Also agreed on the Dynomutt clone aspect.
It's interesting you mention The Impossibles (also one of my favorite cartoons!) because from what I gathered, THEY were initially supposed to be a Three Super Stooges cartoon of sorts - in which they were mechanical superhero foul ups. You'll notice how Fluey, Coil and Multi are similar in look to the Stooges ( same body types as the Stooges, corresponding hair colors, etc.). Fortunately, they changed that (probably due to a rival company beating them to the punch with their Stooges cartoon) .and of course, those guys were much more competent.
Moe Howard's grandson, Michael Maurer may have been the one to lobby for this cartoon. He's credited on IMDB for Dynomutt and The Skatebirds. His brother Jeffrey Scott was also a TV writer for both animated and live action shows at the same time and also worked on the Dynomutt writing team.

Oh, Hanna-Barbera.
ReplyDelete09:09: That wouldn't surprise me. I've heard Shego had that effect on many Kim Possible fans.
