  1. Wow. I know Barbara Goodson has so many varied roles, but it's just so odd to hear her voicing a non-villainous character. This is a pretty... bizarre movie. It's got some good animation, and some good morals/poignant moments that definitely appeal to the kids. But then you have some pretty bizarre elements that I imagine would throw young viewers and their parents for a loop, like the gods contemplating killing Unico because of his powers and the unfortunate implications of the baron drugging Katie's drink.

    1. I guess conquering Earth isn't the only thing she wants to do after 10,000 years of being sealed.

  2. I'm actually really hesitant to watch this review, as this is one of my favorite anime movies of all time. And i'd rather not see it be ripped to piece if that is where this review is going.

    1. Oh man, I just watched. I was so glad you were lenient enough on this movie. Just to mention though, Unico And The Island Of Magic is polarizing. I personally like it BETTER than this first movie, but it contains a LOT more tangential plot elements and a great deal more Nightmare Fuel in SEVERAL ways. The sequel is kinda infamous for being absolutely horrifying to many of the young audience that saw it, though to me, the surreal, bizarre, horrifying nature of the second movie is exactly what makes it memorable to me.

  3. I kinda like this movie, but I do agree with your points. It's a cute movie that has a lot of good stuff going for it, but yeah, it does have flaws that prevent it from being a masterpiece. Unico and the Island of Magic is better though, for having a stronger story, no songs, and having a better villain.

  4. I would have gone with one of the final boss themes from the Castlevania series for the Baron's transformation scene myself, but that works too.
