Personally, I felt bad for Nobi when his mom was yelling at him. This stems from a pet peeve I've developed, from watching Anime characters get yelled at for bad grades, and there's no follow-up, with everyone else expecting the one getting yelled at to buck up. Usagi Tsukino is a big example of this. No wonder the lass can be an emotional wreck...
ReplyDeleteThis probably stems from societal expectations in Japan.
There's also the trope of characters who aren't book smart being treated as blatantly and infuriatingly stupid. But on the other hand, characters who are utterly stupid are celebrated (like Right Suzuki, Takaharu Igasaki and Lucky from Super Sentai).
