Time to take a trip back to the early 2000's, when LEGO saved itself
from bankruptcy by introducing a new franchise that took toy aisles by
storm. Or at least, the movie version of that.
I remember when these came out and remember seeing the commercials for them. I never got into it then , but based on this movie and what you're describing here, I gotta admit this sounds pretty cool. :) The world building here is incredible. And on an unrelated note, I was inspired to get an issue of the MLP (Gen 5) comics based on your review. I haven't read it yet though.
I remember getting information on this franchise piecemeal. Such things like Jaller eventually becoming a Toa and Makuta beinga brotherhood. Due to my analytical nature I caught onto things like this is the first time Makuta sent the Rahkshi and they role as evil counterparts to the Toa in terms of power. Like you mentioned, this franchise doesn't talk down to you and there are things you catch through multiple watches.
There's an in-lore reason for why Lewa (and other Le-Matoran) talk like that. It's called Tree-Speak, or back when the Le-Matorans lived on Metru Nui, Chute-Speak.
