As someone who grew up with and still loves Robotech (which is obvious on my site right now) and other Americanized anime like Voltron (nobody complains about that) you have to remember that the first big anime boom was quite away off. They saw this as just another import and were catering to an American audience. Plus Macross had too few episodes for a US weekday run and too many for a weekend run, and thus made Robotech, putting work into creating a lore that connected the three shows. And you can find the subtitled originals on various streaming sites like Tubi and VuDu for free. They just haven't had a home video release in a long time.
You're free to have your opinion, dude, but...can you, like, NOT take it personally every time I say anything remotely bad about something you grew up with? Lol.
Where's the fun in that? :) In all seriousness though I don't mean to come off as taking it personally or attacking you and I'm sorry if I've done or given the impression of either. I just see so many reviewers telling me how crap the stuff I grew up with is and it gets on my nerves. (Ask Rowdy about my initial response to his Godzilla review. :D) Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I don't delude myself into thinking I'm changing anyone's opinion. Consider me the counterpoint explaining at least why I like it. When you get older and the new generation of reviewers are trashing something you grew up with, you'll understand. -_^Robotech is a special case though because I'm also defending the world before even the first pre-anime craze (the "Japanimation" boom of home video in the 80s) to people who think it was the worst thing that ever happened. And yet anime wouldn't have been big outside of Japan without that period in history. As I've said in one of my recent videos and will enforce in a future one Robotech couldn't and shouldn't be made today as it was but it is important to the history of anime fandom.
I understand where you're coming from brother.
