Top 13 Most Disturbing Moments in Non-Horror Cartoons

Originally aired October 30, 2012. This list turned out well, but it was hell to put together--I'm actually pretty lucky I got it out the day before Halloween.

  1. Actually, "Haunted" takes place in Season 3. Robin beat Slade in combat in Season 1's finale, and Slade was killed during the Season 2 Finale. Also, Robin created the Red X persona, and it was the unknown thief who impersonated Robin as a result.

  2. A good suggestion for this list in my opinion, would be the three parter "The Alien Costume" from Spider-Man: The Animated Series.

  3. I found "The Puppetmaster" to be a Hell of a lot more disturbing.

  4. As disturbing as Yubel is, I'd say that Darkness, especially in the final Arc of the series; tops her.

  5. More Man-Thing that Swamp Thing if you ask me.

  6. I don't think Squidward was ready.

  7. I can see the Venom Symbiote analogy they were going for. Symbiotes don't just make their wearers stronger, but also nudges them into giving into their desires, and in Jenny's case, that would be becoming a "beautiful normal girl".

  8. I just thought of another; the finale to Season 1 of The Incredible Hulk: The Animated Series, "Darkness and Light". The one from the 1990's, in case you're confused. The ending is particularly haunting. Sure, the situation is overturned in the next episode, but "Darkness and Light" left it's mark.

  9. "I Really, Really Hate Clones" and "Farewell, Spider-Man" (The two-part finale to Spider-Man: The Animated Series) would be a perfect fit for a list like this. They don't have the subtlety of "The Alien Costume", but the Main Antagonist stands out for showing the possible darker paths Spidey could have taken, and for his end.

  10. Going back to my comment about Darkness; He's even darker than I thought when making that comment. During his final duel, he shows a horrible future that did come true...
